Crisis and Trauma Response Policy

Policy Statement
KingsGate School will respond promptly to crises and trauma experienced in the school community. A crisis or traumatic incident covers any situation where (a) member(s) of the school community experience(s) an extreme emotional reaction that has the potential to interfere with the ability to function either at the time that the situation arises or later. Such events may be described as tragedies, traumas, emergencies, or crises.

Rationale
To provide a framework for delivering a timely, compassionate and coordinated response to crises and traumatic incidents related to KingsGate School community members. To ensure an appropriate response to a traumatic incident, a team led by the principal, in conjunction with the Traumatic Response Team, will be deployed. 

Guidelines
When an incident has been characterised as a crisis or traumatic incident, the Traumatic Incident Procedure will be implemented.
The Traumatic Response Team will be comprised of:

Office Administrator
Presiding Member of the School Board
Chaplaincy Representative
KingsWay Trust Representative
