Adopted 17th June 2019
Next Review Date: 29th October 2025 (Then Reviewed Biennially)
Rationale
KingsGate School recognises the uniqueness of each individual as part of God’s creation and supports this by developing their spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual, and physical abilities. KingsGate School acknowledges that education is provided within a Christian, non-denominational context.
Biblical Principle
We are each uniquely created by God (Isaiah 64:8), and He has prepared good works for us in advance to do according to our calling and gifts (Ephesians 2:10).
Purpose
Delivery of the curriculum shall foster student progress and support the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC), the National Administration Guidelines, and the KingsGate local curriculum. It shall also ensure that students at KingsGate School receive relevant, high-quality teaching and learning, and provide clear direction for learning and teaching across the school.
▶Ensure the School's Special Character is integrated throughout the planning and implementation of all learning areas.
▶Implement the National Curriculum Statements, which define the learning philosophies, principles, aims, attitudes, and achievement objectives, as well as the Key Competencies.
▶Deliver a variety of culturally responsive pedagogies tailored to each student's needs.
▶Monitor/record student progress against National Achievement Objectives and Key Competencies using a variety of planned assessment procedures, which are integrated into the teaching/learning programmes.
▶Identify barriers to learning for students and implement strategies to address these. This includes monitoring and improving Māori students' achievement.
▶Identify students who are not currently working within their year-level curriculum band, including gifted and talented students, and implement culturally responsive pedagogies to address their needs. This includes monitoring and improving Māori students' achievement.
▶Provide equitable educational opportunities for all groups of learners, i.e., inclusive programmes of work for all students, and ensure there is a focus on the national priority groups of Māori, Pacific Island Nations, and students with special learning needs in school planning and reporting.
▶Our local curriculum will reflect our commitment to the Te Tiriti o Waitangi, as reflected in policy 1.2
▶Develop curriculum plans for the eight learning areas that reflect the unique nature of our community and are continually reviewed and updated through self-assessment.
▶Provide ongoing teacher professional development that is the necessary foundation for successful curriculum delivery.
