Totara Years 4 - 6

In Totara, students continue to build upon the strong foundations established in Puriri. As learners grow in confidence and capability, learning becomes more detailed, challenging, and interconnected. We believe that excellence is not achieved by rushing ahead but by mastering the fundamentals. By continuing to do the basics well, students develop the knowledge, skills, and habits that will support them throughout their educational journey.

There is an old saying: "You cannot reap what you do not sow." At KingsGate School, we intentionally seek to sow seeds that will bear fruit for a lifetime. We sow foundation values, a love of learning, an understanding of God's Word, and a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Through Christian Living lessons, Bible teaching, prayer, memory verses, assemblies, praise and worship, and opportunities to serve others within our school community, students are encouraged to deepen both their faith and their character.

The Totara tree was chosen as the symbol for this learning space because it is one of New Zealand's most majestic and enduring native trees. Known for its strength, resilience, and longevity, the Totara grows steadily over many years, developing the structure needed to stand tall for generations. This reflects the journey of our Years 3–6 students, who are moving beyond the early foundations of learning and beginning to develop greater independence, wisdom, and responsibility. Like the Totara, they are growing stronger year by year, preparing for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Our prayer is that every student in Totara will continue to grow in faith, knowledge, and character, becoming deeply rooted in Christ and equipped to live out our motto: To Know, To Love, To Serve.
