What is PB4L?

KingsGate School is a PB4L-SW school. PB4L-SW stands for ‘Positive Behaviour for Learning – School Wide’. PB4L is a Ministry of Education framework that helps schools to develop a positive school culture that supports learning and positive behaviour. The concept behind this is that like learning, behaviour is a skill that needs to be taught. PB4L helps to change the environment, systems and practices to support children to make positive choices. PB4L-SW is a framework that underpins our school’s special character, vision and values. Our values are…

Strength - Empathy - Respect - Vision - Endurance

How are we using PB4L

KingsGate staff are supported by a Ministry of Education PB4L facilitator who helps set our school up for success. We have regular professional development on this. At the start of 2021, KingsGate introduced a new system for spotting and rewarding positive behaviours in the playground. S.E.R.V.E. cards are awarded to students demonstrating our school values in the playground. See the flowchart for more information about this. House points and marbles are still awarded in class for positive behaviour. Teachers will teach positive behaviour skills in class and through clear expectations, students will know clearly what is expected as a KingsGate student.

What is the KingsGate School Behaviour Reinforcement System?

When a student demonstrates our school values in class they receive house points or marbles in the jar. If it's at playtimes they receive a S.E.R.V.E card that gets placed in the child's LIFEspace box.

AT THE END OF THE DAY

The classroom teacher awards house points for every S.E.R.V.E card earned that day

A runner takes the classroom box to the office to be emptied.

The cards all go into the assembly draw box.

AT ASSEMBLY EVERY THREE WEEKS

At assembly 10 cards will be drawn out. If a child had their card pulled out they will go to Miss TJ's office to claim their prize after assembly.

Any undrawn cards get added to the end of term box.

AT THE END OF TERM

At the end of term, if the whole school has filled the box with S.E.R.V.E. cards they will earn an end of term reward.

The Kaiarahi (student guides) of the winning house will choose what the reward will be.
