Year 12 Pathways

Year 12 at KingsGate School
Year 12 is an exciting stage in a student's learning journey as they begin to prepare for future study, training, employment, and service. At KingsGate School, we combine academic excellence with a Christ-centred approach to learning, helping students grow in knowledge, character, faith, and purpose.
Students can follow a range of pathways designed to suit their strengths, interests, and future goals. These include NCEA Level 2, the New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (NZCFS), MIT Trades Academy programmes, Gateway workplace learning opportunities, and selected Te Kura courses. Whether students are pursuing university study, trades training, or employment pathways, our goal is to provide a supportive environment where every learner can flourish and confidently take their next steps.
As a non-denominational Christian school, we ground all learning in a biblical worldview, encouraging students to see their studies, relationships, and future calling through the lens of faith.
For detailed course information, subject descriptions, and pathway options, please refer to the Year 12 Course Handbook.

Before You Choose Your Courses
Please note the following when selecting Year 12 courses:

  • Course availability is subject to student enrolment numbers and staffing.
  • While every effort is made to accommodate students' preferred subject combinations, timetable clashes may occasionally occur.
  • Entry into some courses may require prior learning, teacher recommendation, or approval from senior high school leadership.
  • Course information is accurate at the time of publication but may change due to curriculum developments, staffing, or other operational requirements.
  • Subject outlines provide an overview of likely learning and assessment opportunities. Final course details will be confirmed by teachers at the beginning of the school year.
  • The mode of instruction or assessment provider may change depending on student demand and staffing.
  • Some courses include take-home course-related costs, such as equipment, resources, or field trips.
  • Financial circumstances should not prevent students from accessing learning opportunities. Families who may require support are encouraged to contact the Head of High School to discuss available assistance and sponsorship options.
