MIT Trades Academy provides KingsGate students with an exciting opportunity to combine their NCEA studies with hands-on vocational learning in a real tertiary environment. Through a partnership between KingsGate School and Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT), students can explore career pathways, gain industry-recognised unit standards, and experience learning beyond the traditional classroom while continuing to work towards NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications.

For students who learn best through practical application, MIT Trades Academy offers authentic experiences across a wide range of industries including construction, automotive engineering, electrical trades, engineering, hospitality, tourism, early childhood education, barbering, hairdressing, business administration, and more. Students typically attend MIT one or two days per week while remaining enrolled at KingsGate for the rest of their learning programme, allowing them to stay connected to school life, their teachers, and their wider educational goals.

At KingsGate, we see MIT Trades Academy as a natural extension of our commitment to helping students discover their God-given gifts, strengths, and future calling. While academic pathways remain important, we recognise that many young people thrive when learning is connected to real-world contexts and meaningful career opportunities. MIT enables students to develop practical skills, workplace habits, confidence, and industry knowledge while gaining valuable NCEA credits and exploring possible futures beyond school.
