Learning in a Real Tertiary Environment
MIT Trades Academy gives students the opportunity to experience vocational learning in a real tertiary environment while still enrolled at KingsGate School. One day each week, students attend MIT and participate in practical, industry-focused programmes that allow them to explore their chosen field through hands-on learning and authentic experiences.

Students learn alongside others from schools across Auckland, use industry-standard facilities and equipment, and experience the expectations of tertiary study. They are supported by specialist tutors and Transition Coordinators who help guide their learning, attendance, progress, and future pathways. This provides students with valuable insight into both further education and the workplace before they leave school.

MIT Trades Academy is about more than gaining credits. Students are encouraged to develop the habits that employers value, including punctuality, responsibility, active participation, teamwork, safe work practices, and professionalism. Through these experiences, students gain confidence, broaden their horizons, and develop a clearer understanding of the opportunities available to them beyond school.
