Growing Leaders & Building Community

Leadership is something we intentionally cultivate from an early age at KingsGate. We want our students to understand that leadership is not simply about having a title or being the person at the front; it is about developing the confidence, character and willingness to serve others well. Our Primary Assemblies provide a valuable space for this growth. Students are given opportunities to participate, speak, lead, encourage others and take increasing responsibility within our Primary community. In doing so, they learn that their voices matter and that they can make a positive contribution to those around them.

Our assemblies are also an important part of simply spending time together. In the busyness of a school week, they give us a regular opportunity to gather as one Primary community, across different classes and year levels. We celebrate student achievement and effort, recognise examples of our SERVE values in action, share what has been happening around the school, worship together and enjoy being part of something bigger than our individual classrooms. Younger students can watch and learn from older students, while our older Primary students have the opportunity to model the attitudes, behaviours and leadership we want to see throughout the school.

These moments of connection are an important part of building culture. They help our students get to know one another, celebrate one another, and develop a genuine sense of belonging. They also provide opportunities to reinforce what is important to us as a Christian school: our faith, our values and the way we are called to treat and serve one another. Over time, the small experiences of standing in front of others, helping lead an assembly, encouraging a younger student, celebrating someone else's success or taking responsibility for a task all contribute to growing confident and compassionate young leaders. Through our Primary Assemblies, we are not only bringing our students together; we are intentionally building community and helping our children discover what it means to lead through character, example and service.
