Growing in Wisdom and Purpose
Welcome to the Intermediate Years at KingsGate School. Year 7 marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter as students move beyond the Primary years and take their next steps towards adulthood. It is a season of growth, discovery, and increasing responsibility as young people begin to develop a deeper understanding of who they are, the gifts God has given them, and the purpose He has for their lives.
As students enter Years 7 and 8, they are invited to embrace a new level of maturity in both thought and action. They will be challenged to think more deeply, serve others more intentionally, and take greater ownership of their learning, relationships, and personal growth. While expectations increase, students are not expected to walk this journey alone. Our teachers and, in particular, our Dean provide care, guidance, and encouragement as students navigate these important years. Together, we seek to create an environment where every student is known, valued, challenged, and equipped to flourish as they continue to grow in wisdom, character, faith, and purpose.
Meet Mr Muller - Our Years 7 & 8 Dean
At KingsGate School, we believe that every student should be known, valued, and supported as they grow in faith, character, and learning. Mr Muller serves as our Years 7–8 Dean and plays a vital role in guiding students through this important stage of their educational journey. In addition to teaching Mathematics and Literacy, he works closely with students, families, and teachers to ensure that every learner is encouraged, challenged, and cared for.
One of the great strengths of the Years 7–8 programme is the strong relationship that students develop with Mr Muller. Through his daily interactions, pastoral care, and genuine interest in each young person, he quickly helps students feel supported by an adult who wants to see them succeed. He takes the time to celebrate achievements, provide encouragement during challenges, and help students navigate the opportunities and responsibilities that come with adolescence.
As Dean, Mr Muller provides pastoral support, monitors academic progress, and works alongside families to help each student flourish. Through his leadership, students are encouraged to grow in confidence, embrace the SERVE values, and continue to become the people God has called them to be. Our hope is that every student leaves Years 7 and 8 not only with a stronger foundation for High School but also with the confidence that comes from being known, valued, and championed by a trusted mentor.
Wearing the Middle Years Uniform with Pride
One of the exciting milestones of entering Years 7 and 8 is the opportunity to wear the KingsGate Intermediate uniform. More than simply a change of clothing, the middle years uniform represents an important transition from the Primary years and the beginning of a new stage of growth, responsibility, and opportunity. We encourage our students to wear their uniform with pride, recognising that it symbolises their first steps towards becoming the young person God is calling them to be. As students grow in maturity, character, leadership, and faith, the Intermediate uniform serves as a visible reminder that they are entering a season where greater responsibility is matched by greater opportunity. It reflects their place within our school community and their commitment to representing themselves, their family, and KingsGate School with integrity and respect. We look forward to seeing our Years 7 and 8 students wear their uniform confidently as they embrace the challenges, achievements, and adventures that await them during these important years.
Technology and Specialist Learning Opportunities
As part of their Years 7 and 8 learning journey, students attend Technology classes at Pukekohe High School once a fortnight, offering exciting opportunities to explore a wide range of practical and creative subjects. From woodwork, metalwork, cooking, drama, and digital technologies to other specialist areas, students can discover new interests, develop valuable skills, and gain hands-on learning experiences that complement their classroom programme. These days are often a highlight for our students, not only because of the engaging learning opportunities, but also because they get to learn alongside students from two other local schools. This helps build confidence, friendships, and social connections while giving students a taste of the wider educational opportunities available as they continue their learning journey.

Building Foundations for Future Success
As students move through the middle years and begin preparing for the assessment and examination pathways that await them in senior school, it is essential that they develop strong academic foundations and confidence in their learning. At KingsGate, we are committed to ensuring that every student is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and habits they need to thrive when these important milestones arrive. For this reason, students in Years 7 and 8 continue to dedicate one hour each day to Reading, Writing, and Mathematics; three hours of focused learning that strengthen literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, and communication skills. This intentional investment in the fundamentals provides students with a solid platform for future success, enabling them to approach assessments, examinations, and life beyond school with confidence, resilience, and a commitment to excellence.
