Policy Statement

The KingsGate BOT is committed to ensuring all new staff are given an appropriate induction and ongoing support and guidance to enable them to contribute towards the School mission, vision and values. They will ensure the School has systems to support beginning teachers, teachers new to New Zealand and teachers new to the School. The BOT want to empower and support staff to live out the School values to achieve our mission and contribute to our vision. The BOT delegates all responsibility for staff induction to the Principal (who may further delegate it as required).

Staff induction forms an integral part of the school performance management processes and it is important that all new staff are provided with the necessary information so they become an active part of the school community. As a good employer, the BOT wishes to promote high levels of staff performance to ensure all new employees become familiar with school systems and processes and ensure that the students receive a continuity of learning, school values, vision and objectives in accordance with our school Charter.

The Principal and/or the Deputy Principal will manage an induction programme for all new staff. This programme will provide support systems for the new employee.

All new staff will be made aware of:

1. the school charter

2. the strategic plan

3. all school policies

4. the annual plan

5. set targets for the year.

The Principal will ensure a staff manual is available to all staff and is updated annually. This manual will identify expected procedures (emergency, behavioural, student care, health and safety etc) and good practices relating to all staff employed at the school.

All staff will enter a performance appraisal agreement.

An induction checklist (see Standard Operating Procedures) will be kept to assist the smooth integration into the school. This will be signed and kept in the individual staff members file

An induction process could take place over a period of four weeks. However, it is preferable that part or all of the induction should take place before a term starts.
