Policy Statement

The BOT of KingsGate School will ensure that children and parents experience a smooth transition to KingsGate School.


The following are criteria is used to determine if a child will be classed as preferential or non-preferential..

Preferential Students

To be considered a preferential student all three points below must be met:

1. A parent of the student adheres to and practices the same Christian Faith as outlined in the School’s Statement of Faith.

2. A parent is willing to attest to that faith by signing the Statement of Faith declaration.

3. A pastor or recognized church elder can provide a letter of confirmation that church attendance is a significant way faith is expressed within the family.

Non-Preferential Student

To be considered a non-preferential student only one point below needs to be met:

1. Neither parent holds and adheres to the same Christian faith as outlined in the School Statement of Faith. The student will be classed as non-preferential.

2. Neither parent or any legal guardian of the child is willing to sign the Statement of Faith Declaration. The student will be classed as non-preferential.

Students Under Oranga Tamariki Care (or other government agency).

In all circumstances where a child who is under the care of Oranga Tamariki (or other government agency) the principal will seek guidance from the agency to determine who the Preferential or Non-Preferential criteria is applied to for purposes of enrolment at KingsGate School.

Enrolment: Order of Priority

Students will be enrolled in the following order at KingsGate School:

1. Preferential Students

a) All preferential students who apply at KingsGate School will be accepted for enrolment (with the exception of point b below). When a child seeking admission to KingsGate school has significant additional educational needs the school, family and relevant MoE specialist must agree on a process to transition the student successfully into school life.

b) Preferential students cannot be enrolled after the school reaches its roll-cap.

c) Preferential students who are not enrolled because of roll-cap limitations will be placed on the school's enrolment waiting list.


2. Non-Preferential Students

a) Non-preferential students will only be able to enrol if placements remain after all preferential applicants have been enrolled.

b) The maximum number of places available for non-preferential students will be governed by the maximum allowable under the school's integration agreement.

c) When the school has met its roll-cap limitation, non-preferential students will have the opportunity to be placed on the school's enrolment waiting list.

Wait Listing

KingsGate School's enrolment waiting list will be prioritised as follows:

Priority 1: All preferential students in the following order:

1. Siblings of preferential students already at school in order of acceptance.

2. All other preferential students in order of acceptance.


Priority 2: Non-preferential students in the following order:

1. Year Zero or Year One siblings of non-preferential students currently enrolled.

2. All other siblings of non-preferential students currently enrolled.

3. Year Zero or Year One siblings of former non-preferential students.

4. All other siblings of former non-preferential students.

5. Non-preferential students who have come from other Christian character schools.

6. All other non-preferential students in order of acceptance onto the waiting list.


Cohort Enrolment

Definitions of Cohort: A group of students.

Parents intending to send their children to KingsGate School will be encouraged to pre-enrol their child in the year they turn four.

Parents will complete an enrolment form and provide all necessary documentation. Pre-school visits and starting dates will be aligned with the Ministry of Education Cohort Policy dates each year.

New entrants are encouraged to complete up to three-morning visits before their start date.

KingsGate School adheres to the Cohort Entry Policy under the Education Amendments Act 2019.
