KingsGate School recognises the uniqueness of each individual as part of God’s creation and supports this through the development of the individual's spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual, and physical ability. KingsGate School acknowledges that education is provided within a Christian, non-denominational context.


Biblical Principle

We are each uniquely created by God (Isa 64:8) and He has prepared in advance good works for us to do according to our calling and giftings (Eph 2:10).



Delivery of the curriculum shall foster student progress, and support the New Zealand Curriculum document (NZC), National Administration Guidelines and the KingsGate local curriculum statements. It shall also ensure the students at KingsGate School receive relevant, high-quality teaching and learning and give a clear direction for learning and teaching across the school.


Ensure the Special Character of the School is integrated throughout the planning and implementation of all learning areas.

Implement the National Curriculum Statements which define the learning philosophies, principles, aims, attitudes and achievement objectives together with the Key Competencies.

Deliver a variety of culturally responsive pedagogies that are appropriate to the needs of the student.

Monitor/record student progress against National Achievement Objectives and Key Competencies using a variety of planned assessment procedures, which are integrated into the teaching/learning programmes.

Identify barriers to learning for students and implement strategies to address these. This includes monitoring and improving the achievement of Māori students.

Identify students who are not currently working within their year-level curriculum band, gifted and talented students and implement culturally responsive pedagogies to address needs. This includes monitoring and improving the achievement of Māori students.

Provide equitable educational opportunities for all groups of learners, i.e inclusive programmes of work for all students and ensure there is a focus on the national priority groups of Māori, Pacific Island Nations and students with special learning needs in school planning and reporting.

Our local curriculum will reflect our commitment to the Te Tiriti o Waitangi s reflected in policy 1.2

Develop curriculum plans for the eight learning areas that reflect the special nature of our community and are maintained through self-review.

Provide ongoing teacher professional development that is the necessary foundation for successful curriculum delivery.
